Here’s the full story.
My two best friends and I were planning a trip. We opened an account and we currently have $6K each to spend and there is still another year before we go.
However i want to pull out and I don’t know what to say weather to tell them the whole lot or just leave it simple.
He I go with my reasons.
Firstly I suggested that we go skiing in Canada. We have all been skiing and all really like it. We also come from Australia so we get plenty of sun and surf etc. But my other two friends wanted to go on a cruise. I figured 2 against one plus I’m easy going and make the more out of any situation than the other 2 can.
Then I made a few suggestions on cruise I would have liked. Like the one in Alaska, the Antartica, one or the Caribbean. But they want to go to the Mediterranean. So why not we’re all going to be together it will cost more for less but we’ll still have fun.
Then I suggested a cruise that stopped off at two places I wanted to go Dubrovnik and Alexandria. It still went to Florence, Rome and a few other places which were two of the many places the others wanted to go. They said no as it didn’t go to Half the places they wanted to go. I felt like screaming ‘OF COURSE NOT there are 3 of us we are not going to find one that will go to every place we all want to go. I don’t even want to go to the Mediterranean at all.’ It went to 2 places that I sort of have wanted to go.
Then one friend dropped out so there was only two people to cater for. Plus we could pay less per person as we just needed a smaller cabin and could get one down the bottom and in the centre. I mean how much time do you actually spend in your room on a cruise?
Then this other girl decided that since she has to go to a cousin’s wedding in Ireland she can swing by the cruise. Which is great but now we need to pay more per person because we need a bigger cabin and the only ones that can be Triple are higher up. We also have the problem where we have to time it around this girls cousins wedding which is in the june/july. the peak cruise time so it will cost even more. Not to mention that we won’t get to see as much because there will be heaps more tourists. I know europe is pretty busy at the best of times but June July are the busiest.
Then As I don’t live in the same city as the other two now they’ve been making plans and not telling me until they say OK this is what is going to happen. They are even going to go over a week or so earlier to spend time in London. Which would be nice but I can only go for the two weeks of the cruise as I have kids and my husband can’t take too much time off work. Originally it was we all go on the plane together over there and then go our separate ways after the cruise. Now I’m going by myself.
Also my husband and I have to go to my cousin’s wedding in April over in Thailand. We really don’t want to take the kids so my husband’s parents are going to house, baby and doggie sit for us. So our son can go to school and we know they’ll be safe. So he already has to take a week off for that.
It’s all screwed up and persoanlly I don’t want to pend around $8K on a trip I don’t really want to go on. It would be great to spend time with my girlfriends but really they’ve planned it all and don’t even listen to my suggestions.

I’ve fallen in love with this house design. What would it cost to build it in the midwest? Would all of the stonework and special Mediterranean features cost much more than building a more traditional house?

Yes, I was once very rich, and I lost everything, including my dream house, in 2004. But I plan on making a comeback…so you just never know. Besides, it never hurts to dream.
My husband can probably do a lot of the work himself. And there are ways to cut the cost. We don’t need a 3 car garage, for example, and I don’t really like the bulky stone fireplaces. I’d probably simplify the interior considerably. I really love the layout though and how it’s not all square.
