Open Question: how to read house blueprints?
Hi, I’m trying to figure out if my house was built with any sort of drainage system UNDER the basement. There is no french drain IN the basement. I do have a sump pump in a pit with a cover that pumps water into my back yard, but i can’t tell if a drainage system feeds that or not. I do have the blueprints for the foundation, i just don’t know what to look for… Any helpful thoughts? Thanks!
thanks for the answers so far guys! the pump is what is not working, i don’t see how that means the drainage is not working… if it drains to the pump area and the pump isn’t working, wouldn’t that mean the water would come into the basement?

Open Question: Where can I find Architectural plans for Taiwanese houses?
I recently started going back to school part time, trying to finish my architecture degree, and when my professor found out that I lived in Taiwan he gave me an assignment to design a full set of design plans and 3D renderings for various angles of the buildings interior and exterior. Even though I live in Taiwan I never actually paid much attention to the design of the buildings around me. So I am hoping some one can tell me where I can find blue prints, models, floor plans, anything like this that would help me to complete my assignment.

I am not looking for anything fancy like Taipei 101 or the gigantic fancy houses suburbs of Taipei (mostly because they are too complex), rather I am looking for something like the normal 3-5 story houses, or even the traditional Chinese or Fukien style country homes.
Anything that represents the houses that you see in Taiwan.

Whether you have money that you would like to put to work for you or you simply feel as though you need to start spending money to make money, it is time for you to look into how to invest in property, with a special interest in investing in apartment buildings. Remember that the cost to invest doesn’t just end with the purchase of the property. Investing in property means that you are going to need to think about how you can take care of the property as well. Are you someone who has the time and the expertise to manage an apartment building on your own? Investing in apartment buildings often means investing in a management company as well, unless you are willing to put your time and effort into managing it yourself. Remember that you also need to think about things like repairs, cleaning when tenants move out and making sure that the property taxes are paid.

When you are thinking about investing in apartment buildings, make sure that you think about how you are going to be able to get to know the area. What kind of tenants can you expect? A building that mostly has young urban professionals staying in it is going to be a much different investment than the kind that will mostly have college students coming in and out. What kind of turnover are you thinking about and what kind of options do you have to consider?

Take a moment and remember that when you are looking at how to invest in property that you are looking at the long game. You need to think about where you are going to be in the next five years or the next ten years. This might affect your ability to invest and when you do it, but it is always better to make plans and to see what risks and rewards might be awaiting you.

Open Question: Question about a (preferably free!) macro program or startup manager for windows?
I was wondering if anyone knew of a program or utility out there, such as a macro program or startup manager, which would start automatically when I start windows (i.e. one which wouldn’t have to use hotkeys), and would preform a few tasks for me which I do every morning.

These include: opening Firefox and entering my username and password into my home page, right-clicking the Windows Live Messenger icon in the system tray and signing me in to that, and opening my email inbox – again from the menu you get when right clicking this icon.

Also, if it is possible (and I doubt it would be), I would like it to enter my password at the login screen to log me in to windows as well, though if it was going to do this it might have to be controlled by a “master password” or something similar, perhaps entered while windows is starting up?

The reason I want to do this is because my computer takes a long time to start up, and I would like to be able to just turn it on of a morning and maybe enter one password, and then come back 5-10 minutes later with it all set up!

And it would be great if it was free!! Or reasonably cheap, if possible.

Open Question: I would REALLY APPRECIATE if you answered the question. 10 POINTS AWARDED TODAY!?
So I went on vacation met this girl in poland and hung out with her a bit (already left was there 1+ months). She got close to me during movies at her house sometimes (like one time she got up to get a chip and got back down closer like 1000times lol) (also our shoulders were touching once and she didn’t move away and i could hear her breathing as if she was nervous) and once she even noticed something stuipid i did (looked at an ad giver and looked away) and she said she loved what i did… Also during movies once light got in my eyes she tried fixing it for 10 minutes. She walks me home every time i went back. Ok last day I was in poland we were talking on instant messanger and she told me to come over. We hung out a bit and then when I left at 10 she gave me a present and told me to read the card when i get home.. The present was a glass dolphin and glass elephant.. The card said ____, I’m really glad we met each other. The dolphin stands for the meeting of us and it was great and the elephant should bring me luck?? After that I thanked her on isntant messanger and she had to leave the next day for a trip also and I had to leave for a different country. Open Question: My ‘husband’ forgot how he proposed, should I be as upset as I am?
OK, first let me say I never thought I would be writing in one of these, so please people be kind, I’m only looking for honest help. I know I’m screwed up I don’t need you to tell me, but I can’t afford therapy!

My ‘Husband’ and I have been together for 6 years now. The reason I am quoting the word ‘husband’ is because we have never actually gotten married – for many reasons which I am going to go into detail about. Though we lacked the piece of paper; up until a year ago I was proud to call him hubby and just figured the actual wedding day would come in due time.

First the stupid reasons we are not already married – which I think was my sub-conscious excuses to hold off on the I-do’s. HIS MOTHER!!! Every time a date was set there was some totally STUPID reason we could not get married on that day; so and so died that day, so and so did this and that on that day; OH AND MY FAVORITE: “We can have ‘daughters’ B-day party at the same time. (His daughter, not mine)! I finally said F* it and the dress and all wedding supplies have been stacked in the closet since.

BUT my hesitance has proved (to me anyway) to be a good thing. During a friendly card game a year ago the ‘marriage’ conversation came up and for some unknown reason I reflected on his STUPID YES STUPID proposal. He was very nervous and ring less and it took him nearly an hour of rambling for me to even figure out where the stupid conversation was going – so finally I asked where he was going with all his rambling; his reply “well I thought we should get married what do you think?”OK I’MA FOOL – I actually found this whole ordeal quite endearing!

So anyway; during this card game I reflected on this ‘special’ moment in my life; and told him how much it had meant to me only to be told “I don’t remember.” HOW IN THE HECK don’t you remember something like this??? It hurt so bad – still does. I feel like such a FOOL. I think it must have been FAKE, a PUT ON, him doing the right thing because I had just moved in and his MOTHER did not approve!

Since then our relationship has been very rocky. Every little thing gets me going and back to this issue and some of the other stupid things he has said and done. About 8 months ago I could no longer stand to wear the engagement ring – WHICH BY THE WAY I PICKED OUT MYSELF! – so I put it back in the box with its mate. This does not seem to bother him in the least.

OK, now this gets better – a month or so ago I found out that he has been looking at porn on the internet (he spends a lot of time away from home so it was not unexpected). This actually did not bother me, due to his job he is gone a lot and I to have resorted to porn for satisfaction at times myself. Most of you ladies out there are probably going to think I’m out of my mind but I was actually quite turned on by this! So (in hopes of improving an already pretty darn good sex life) I asked what kind of porn, what web sites, etc. He was seeming to embarrassed to talk about this even though I told him it aroused me!

So, I finally could no longer stand wondering so I logged onto his computer to check it out. Well I found a few different sites nothing hard core or having to do with minors or just plain weird! THANK GOD! But what I stumbled across next made my head (and heart) spin! He looked up a strip club in another city while he was in that city! So I confronted him about it (because that’s how I am). He claims he did NOT go just wanted to see if it was still in business – yes this implies he has been there before.

More background: His ex-wife was/is a stripper, that’s how he met her. He used to spend a lot of time in strip clubs. Supposedly he put all this behind him before we met and is now a devoted husband and father.

Naturally, I don’t believe him! If he is so ‘devoted’ why would he even CARE if some strip club is still open or not?
